About NearbyHomeBuilders
Who We Are
About NearbyHomeBuilders
The most comprehensive directory of licensed home builders and renovation contractors across the United States and Canada.
Our Mission
Helping Homeowners Find Builders They Can Trust
Finding a trustworthy home builder shouldn't require hours of searching across government websites, calling licensing boards, and cross-referencing reviews. We built NearbyHomeBuilders to change that.
NearbyHomeBuilders is a team of researchers, writers, and data engineers who believe that access to verified contractor information should be simple and free. Our directory aggregates licensing data from official state and provincial authorities, so every builder you find here has a real license you can independently verify.
Our editorial content is fully independent. We participate in affiliate programs to help fund our work, but these partnerships never influence which builders appear in our directory, how we rank them, or what we write. Builders earn their listing by holding a valid license — nothing more.
Our Process
How We Verify Listings
Every listing in our directory traces back to an official licensing record. Here's exactly how we source and maintain our data.
- Listings sourced from official state and provincial contractor licensing databases
- Business names normalized and deduplicated against primary source records
- Website and contact information enriched from verified business sources
- Unlicensed or expired contractor records excluded from public listings
- Listings continuously updated as licensing databases are refreshed
How We Write
Editorial Standards
Four principles that guide every article, guide, and resource we publish.
Research-First
Every guide we publish draws on industry sources, builder associations (NAHB, CHBA), government licensing databases, and verified contractor credentials — not marketing copy.
Independent Verification
Listings are sourced from official state and provincial licensing portals. We cross-reference business names, addresses, and license numbers to weed out unlicensed contractors.
Editorial Independence
Affiliate relationships never influence which builders appear in our directory or how we rank them. Listings earn their position through data quality and completeness, not payments.
Transparency
We clearly disclose affiliate relationships and explain exactly how listings are sourced. Our methodology is open so you can evaluate our work for yourself.

The Team
NearbyHomeBuilders Team
Articles and guides published on NearbyHomeBuilders are written and reviewed by the NearbyHomeBuilders editorial team — researchers, data engineers, and construction industry writers focused on helping homeowners make informed decisions.
Our team researches current building codes, licensing requirements, and construction industry trends across all fifty US states and Canadian provinces. We source information from NAHB (National Association of Home Builders), CHBA (Canadian Home Builders' Association), state contractor licensing boards, and peer-reviewed construction research.
Content is reviewed for accuracy before publication and updated when regulations, licensing requirements, or market conditions change.
